The Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is working with the National Careers Service and the Department for Work and Pensions, as one of eight LEPs in delivering new careers interventions for older workers.
This innovative pilot is being delivered by the National Careers Service and involves working with employers to assist them in their own workforce planning strategies.

The Humber has seen huge recent economic changes with significant inward investment of the wind and renewables industries, and the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Employment and Skills Board (ESB) are encouraged by the new opportunities this could bring, especially for businesses wanting to expand and young people looking for work based learning.

The Humber Local Enterprise Partnership is supporting the #ThisAbility campaign in the Humber, a local campaign which is designed to improve employer confidence when supporting or considering recruiting disabled people. The Employment and Skills Team are investing in the disability agenda, as part of the Skills Pledge campaign. The Skills Pledge is signed by volunteer employers in the Humber to invest the future of all Humber residents, ensuring growth and a fully skilled workforce.

Our two events of the final day of Humber Business Week 2016 saw us discuss the achievements of the Humber LEP and its partners in 2015/16 and with our supporting partners – Andrew Jackson, Humberbusiness.com and Bondholders – bring together national and international speakers on a platform to discuss the Humber’s role in the Northern Powerhouse.

As we begin 2016 there is an air of optimism from businesses in the Humber and wider region.
Last year saw a year of delivery across key projects and programmes and we want to thank our partners for their work across a varied portfolio, and to the business members who give their time and expertise on our boards, groups and forums.
This excellent partnership work in the Humber has seen millions of pounds of devolved funding that has leveraged millions more in public and private investment to begin projects, which are driving the growth of the Humber economy.
This year will be a decisive one with three large issues that could change the way we do things.

American industrialist and Henry Ford said “…anyone who stops learning is old, whether 20 or 80. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young”.
For me as a 63 year old, using my 20 years experience as a senior project manager for the Department of Work and Pensions, working for Chapter 3 to support those who like me are in the third chapter of their lives to have a fulfilling career beyond 50 is something I can wholeheartedly relate to.
