The Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has recruited eight new private sector members to its Board.
After a high number of applications and a competitive interview process, the Humber LEP has chosen eight experienced directors; they will bring expertise in important areas of business and strategic management, to help drive forward the growth of the Humber economy.
The refresh of the Board will bring further representation from local businesses and education and training providers.
Lord Haskins, Chair of the Humber LEP said:
“I am always impressed by the number of highly qualified and experienced people who are prepared to give up their time to support what the LEP is doing. Their commitment and enthusiasm is a great asset for this region.
“We received a high number of applications to join our Board, and the selection process was very competitive. We feel confident that our Board has selected the best members to assist in driving the growth and sustainability of the Humber economy.
“Our partners, the four local authorities and our current Board members will be joined by eight experienced new members, who all want the best for the Humber.”
Joining the Humber LEP Board is:
Simon Bird, Regional Director of Regional Director of ABP Ports which includes Immingham, Hull, Grimsby and Goole
Together these ports handles 70m tonnes across a range of sectors making Humber the busiest estuary in UK by tonnage. The ports collective turnover is c£300m and employ over 1000 personnel.
As a regional director Simon has the full accountability for the performance of each port and is a member of the ABP Board.
Brendan Conlon, Managing Director of On Line Design & Engineering Ltd
Online Design & Engineering has offices in Grimsby, Immingham and Hessle. The Company provides engineering and design solutions to companies throughout Humberside and UK. Has a turnover of £36m and employs circa 700 staff, agency and contract personnel.
Brendan is also the Chair of HCF Catch, which represent over 350 companies mainly in the chemicals sector. Brendan is an Engineer by profession and has worked throughout his career with companies in Energy, Oil & Gas and Steel and food sectors. Brendan brings to the Board links with industry in particular with Chemical companies and has good understanding and experience of technology developments.
Darren Cunningham, General Manager of the Humber Refinery and UK Director of Phillips 66
A chemical engineer by discipline Darren has 32-years of experience in various refining and commercial roles before assuming his current role in January 2017. Prior to that, he worked as Refinery Manager at the Bayway Refinery, New Jersey.
Darren began his career with Conoco at the Humber Refinery in 1985, where he held various roles in engineering and Planning & Economics. He has worked in the region and was Operations Manager at the Humber Refinery since 2008, and from 2002-2008 in various Operations leadership roles at the Humber Refinery.
Jeanette Dawson, Chief Executive of Bishop Burton
Jeanette has been CEO of Bishop Burton since 2003. She has led a period of significant and sustainable organisational growth and quality performance for the organisation.
Her tenure has included acquisition of failing college in Lincolnshire and the successful integration of this college into Bishop Burton business model that has been recognised nationally as exemplar and used as a sector case study for merger and management of change.
Ian Plunkett, Senior Office Partner at PwC Hull Office and leader of East Yorkshire & Humber practice
An experienced audit partner, Ian has 25 years of experience working in the North of England, London and the Middle East, where he led PwC’s Assurance practice in Abu Dhabi. In addition to being the Hull office senior partner Ian leads the firm’s large Private Business practice in Yorkshire.
Ian’s expertise is in providing Assurance, Accounting, Governance and Financial Reporting advice to listed, large private and government clients in the UK and overseas. Client and industry expertise includes Manufacturing, Distribution, Transport & Logistics, Energy & Utilities and Oil & Gas
Ian has extensive experience of development of policy over pricing, people, quality and diversity. Ian is a decisive leader with a track record of high stakes decision making around resource deployment, experienced recruitment and technical positioning.
Bill Showalter, Chief Executive of Young’s Seafood Ltd
Bill has been CEO of Young’s Seafood Ltd since 2016. The company is the UK market leader in frozen and chilled seafood with £500m revenue.
Prior to his appointment at Young’s Seafood, Bill was the Chief Financial Officer for pan-European Company with a £1.2bn turnover with seven markets and 15 manufacturing facilities.
Bill brings to the Board significant financial and leadership qualities with proven track record of developing strategies and overseeing delivery to growth.
Richard Tuplin, Regional Managing Director at Jelf/Marsh
Richard oversees the East Region of 5 offices (Hull, Hessle, York, Grimsby, and Lincoln) with the regional offices employing circa 170 staff with revenue of £11 million.
Richard was appointed into the MD role on the 01st March 2017, following the acquisition of Bluefin by Jelf/Marsh with 80 locations across the UK.
Richard has been involved with the LEP in various roles including member of the Business Development Board.
Anne Tyrrell, Principal and Chief Executive of North Lindsey College
Anne has been Principal and CEO of North Lindsey College since 2012. During her leadership the College has moved from a position of financial weakness to one of outstanding financial health.
Anne has strong commitment to the growth of the region and developing working collaboration between businesses and education to ensure that the skills infrastructure is there to deliver productivity and growth for a sustainable economy. She brings significant leadership qualities and experience of developing and delivering strategies.
