Following publication of the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP’s) Annual Review 2014-15, the LEP has received the comments below from local MPs

Nic Dakin MP, Scunthorpe

I am delighted with the progress of the Humber LEP.  In particular I feel that we have established the Humber as the Energy Estuary in the UK and begun to take significant steps forward on ensuring that local people have the skills we need now and into the future.

Rt Hon David Davis MP, Haltemprice

“This is a time of real opportunity for the cities, towns and villages around the Humber.

“With Hull being the City of Culture, improved communications, the Siemens investment on the north bank, the investment at Able Humber Port on the south bank and a number of other developments across the Humber show that we have a real chance to build new prosperity for the region.

“Whether it is improvements in education, investment in infrastructure or the creation of jobs, the Humber LEP has been at the cutting edge of all of the actions enabling that era of prosperity.”

Rt Hon Alan Johnson MP, Hull West and Hessle

“I commend the LEP as it continues to create jobs and drive growth by providing strategic leadership, support for businesses and leading on initiatives and projects which will transform the Humber.”

Diana Johnson MP, Hull North

“Humber LEP has been a valuable part of Hull and Humber’s efforts over the past few years to promote investment and regeneration on both banks of the Humber.

“Our recent successes on Siemens and City of Culture did not happen by chance!

“Given that we will have to continue working hard locally to make our own luck over the next few years, I am sure that Humber LEP will remain an ally for progress in our region.”

Andrew Percy MP, Brigg & Goole

There is more business confidence in the area and the LEP, as a business-led partnership, has contributed to it by providing a strategic focus for both banks of the Humber. It has proved successful in levering private investment and, through various initiatives, is a significant player in addressing the skills gap so people can take advantage of the new employment opportunities.

Graham Stuart MP, Beverley & Holderness

“With Britain’s economy now firmly on the rise, we have a great opportunity to ensure the vision of the Northern Powerhouse becomes a reality.  Over the next five years we will see major investment in transport and skills and a new focus on ensuring young people receive the careers advice and guidance they need – boosted by the Humber Careers Gold Standard.  Here in the Humber area we have all the ingredients we need to become one of the most dynamic and successful parts of the UK and I commend the work of the Humber LEP in taking this work forward.”

Karl Turner MP, Hull East

“Hull and the Humber is going through enormous economic change and local businesses have been supported fantastically by the Humber LEP. As Hull and the Humber aims to become the green capital of Europe, it is vital that businesses are given the help and backing from a strong and influential LEP that can promote local interests in order to move the region forward.

“There is a sense of optimism in Hull at the moment on the back of GreenPort Hull and the City of Culture, both of which will create jobs and investment in the City. The LEP is helping to harness that optimism and entrepreneurial spirit and boosting the region’s prospects. I support the work of the LEP and this latest report shows the important steps that the local economy is making with the aid of the LEP”
