Sam Barber, Beverly Grammar Student on work experience with Beverley Building Society

Beverley Building Society welcomed Sam Barber from Beverley Grammar School for one week work experience. Having enjoyed business studies at school, Sam wanted to gain some valuable experience within accounting and financial services whilst building his knowledge within general business operations and marketing.

Having had the opportunity to job shadow Society staff in a variety of departments, Sam said “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time building my understanding of different business practices working alongside various team members in each department. I feel that what I have learnt over the course of the week I can take back to my academic studies and build upon my knowledge of business. I would like to thank the Society for allowing me the opportunity to work with them on a variety of projects, and giving me valuable experience.”

Mark Marsden, Beverley Building Society’s Risk Director, said “Here at Beverley Building Society, we work closely with local schools and other educational institutions to support the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Pledge providing valuable work experience opportunities to local young people such as Sam.” Sam also added “The staff at the Society have been very welcoming and friendly and have further influenced my decision to pursue a career in financial services.”

Beverley Building Society offer work experience placements of up to two weeks throughout the year as part of their support for the Humber LEP’s Skills Pledge.  The work experience placement involves the chance for students to job shadow within each department of the Society, where they can learn and experience different roles and departmental operations. They try and specifically focus this experience within the Marketing Department, where they are able to offer a lot more in terms of being pro-actively involved with future marketing projects/campaigns.
