Small and medium sized businesses in the Humber area can apply for grants of between £5,000 and £200,000 from the Humber LEP’s Growing the Humber programme.
Growing the Humber is a £4m programme funded by the Government’s Local Growth Fund. It is designed to help businesses make capital investments which will lead to job creation within a year. Projects could include buying equipment and machinery or extending and refurbishing premises to enable the business to grow.
The programme builds on the success of a £30m Regional Growth Fund scheme which has supported more than 190 businesses with grants. Businesses that have previously received a grant include:
- Blackrow Engineering, a Grimsby-based business that received a grant to purchase equipment that would enable them to increase manufacturing capacity
- Martin Williams, a manufacturer of vehicle bodies based in Burstwick East Yorkshire which received a grant to double the size of their workshop facilities
- Kwick Tuf, a Hull-based processor of glass and associated products that received a grant to purchase, renovate and equip new premises next door to the existing site in order to increase production capacity to meet demand
- Hodson and Kaus, a construction engineering business servicing the renewables sector from their base in Stallingborough that received a grant to undertake a refurbishment of their premises and invest in new plant and equipment
Grant applications are assessed by an Investment Panel of private sector business leaders who between them have knowledge and skills of business management, finance, law and property. David Kilburn of MKM Building Supplies is Chair of the panel and said:
“Growing the Humber has already been successful in helping businesses of all shapes and sizes to make key investments that enable them to grow and employ more people. We are pleased that money from the Government’s Local Growth Fund allows us to continue providing support to businesses that promotes economic growth for the Humber”
