The Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is today (5 June) launching ambitious plans to step up the region’s economic transformation at its Annual Business Summit.

LEP calls for businesses to help shape Government’s industrial strategy

The Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is asking businesses to help it make the region’s case as the Government develops a new Industrial Strategy for the country.

The Government is consulting on what should be in the new Industrial Strategy, covering areas such as infrastructure, skills and investment.  The LEP wants to ensure that the new strategy works for the Humber, and is working with local authorities, business membership organisations and individual businesses to make the case for the region’s interests.

Esh Communities 2016 Grant: Applications Now Open

As part of Added Value community initiatives Esh Group, supported by the Esh Charitable Trust, is offering grants of up to £1,000 to local any community group, charity or good cause based in Yorkshire, Leeds and The Humber.

John Leggott College links with employers over the past academic year continue to remain strong

John Leggott College links with employers over the past academic year continue to remain strong, with students completing 45,000 hours of work experience within local businesses and organisations.

The college has links with over 240 employers who offer work experience placements to students, to help increase their employability skills and to ensure they are happy with their chosen career area.

During the 2014-15 academic year, 243 JLC students were involved in work experience with companies such as Jaguar/Landrover, Clugstons, Scunthorpe General and Barclays.

Unlocking untapped potential of the Humber Prison community

According to the Prison and Courts Reform Bill, nationally 47% of the prison community have no formal qualifications on entry into prison, with 13% reporting to never having a job, and 46% of all prisoners re-offending within a year of release.

The Gold Standard which is jointly funded by Deflog V Q, Trust and the Humber LEP has been designed for 11-19 schools, academies, colleges and providers in the Humber. There are currently 50 organisations working through the assessments to achieve the Gold Standard.

To encourage more young people to study STEM subjects, the Humber LEP has launched an introductory video about the type of job opportunities available locally and four case study videos. The case studies are about people who have qualified in STEM and STEM-related studies and now employed by Phillips 66, one of the UK’s leading chemical companies at Immingham, Scunthorpe engineering company, Bradburys, TATA Steel in Scunthorpe and Centrica on the South Bank.
