A ten year old Grimsby company has been awarded nearly £20,000 from the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership’s Regional Growth Fund Programme to help them expand their business.
Since 2003, Abatis Fire and Security Group Ltd has specialised in the design, installation, maintenance and repair of fire and security systems to commercial and residential premises. But thanks to a refreshed look at the industry, the company realised it needed to change strategy to offer additional services, such as in house servicing of fire extinguishers.
And diversification into the solar pv and LED lighting sectors meant the current configuration of their premises was no longer appropriate.
The matched funding provided by Abatis will be used to invest in IT, vehicles and plant to support the new ways of working.
Chris Stephenson, Managing Director of Abatis, said, “Providing fire and security solutions is what we do. It takes passion and dedication to really know your industry, and it takes our specialist approach to make sure we deliver the right solution for our customers. We’ve listened to what our customers wanted, and changed the ways we do things.
“The building we’re taking on in the centre of Grimsby is highly visible, but in need of some TLC. When we’re done, this should look much better, improving the character of one of the older buildings in the town.
“In addition to taking on two staff in the future as a result of this, we’re also looking at creating apprenticeship opportunities within the company to help support the local economy.”
Councillor Ray Oxby, portfolio holder for regeneration, said, “We’re pleased to be able to support a well-recognised company and see their diversification plans for the future. And the fact that they’re looking at taking on apprentices as well means they’re looking forward to a future in the town – something I can wholeheartedly support.”
