Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council

Stephen is currently Leader of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and has been since its inception in 1996, as part of local government reorganisation. The East Riding is one of the largest unitary authorities in the country covering nearly 1000 sq miles and having a population of 335,000.

Councillor Parnaby served on the former Beverley Borough Council; was Leader from 1991-96, and was on the former Humberside County Council. Councillor Parnaby, the longest serving Leader in Yorkshire, is also an accredited Peer for Local Government.

Councillor Parnaby was awarded the OBE in the 2008 New Years Honours List for his services to Local Government.
