Statement: Development of policy proposals for devolution
The Humber LEP has released the following statement following a Board meeting on Friday 10 July:
“The Humber plays a vitally important role in the UK economy and is an essential component of the Northern Powerhouse. All partners around the Humber are committed to working together to realise the potential of the Humber Estuary – the UK’s Energy Estuary – for the benefit of our communities.
“The Board is unanimous in the view that the Humber must benefit from the devolution agenda. Our area has an exciting future and a compelling case for the devolution of powers and resources, building on the progress to date.
“At the request of local authority leaders, the Board has agreed that the LEP will lead the development of policy proposals for devolved powers relevant to the economic development of the Humber area. This work will involve business, local authorities, education and other stakeholders. Existing informal discussions will be brought together so a coherent package can be finalised by the autumn.
“Discussions with neighbouring areas will continue with a view to finalising the proposed geographical coverage and governance arrangements of any deal(s) in due course. The Board’s priority is to ensure that policy proposals are fully worked up that can support the economic development opportunities for all parts of the Humber area.”
