The Humber Skills Pledge brings together business with Employment and Skills. KCOM are investing in the future skills across the Humber. Wilberforce College have achieved the Humber Gold Standard for Careers, Education, Information, Advice, and Guidance.
Fifty students from Wilberforce Sixth Form College were recently given a behind-the-scenes insight into KCOM’s technology as they took a tour of the server rooms at its Carr Lane office.
The students are in the second year of a BTEC IT course and the tours gave them an overview of the operations of the server rooms, security and supporting systems.
Brendon Smurthwaite, Community Coordinator at KCOM, said:
“We were delighted to welcome the students and give them a look at how our server rooms operate.
“Being able to see the systems close up will hopefully have prepared them for what they might experience if they work in the IT industry in the future.”
Jo Grindall, IT Teacher Wilberforce Sixth Form College, added:
“Our visit to KCOM to find out about their IT infrastructure provided a really valuable and interesting opportunity for the second year BTEC IT students.
“To see a real life server room up close and understand how KCOM uses IT in their business is a great addition to our students’ employability skills and knowledge of the world of work.”
